PEOPLE

An expert team committed to share our family heritage

Early last century, the great-grandfather of the present owner César Augusto Sequeira Correia acquired the Quinta de Marrocos. Since 1979 César Sequeira developed the farming activity in the family's estates, having started the certification of its wines.

In the 90's, inspired by his wife Maria Elisa, the family rebuilt the house of Marrocos and began the agro-tourism activity, with the support of daughters Rita and Catarina. In 2009 the family founded Golddrink, a truly family business committed share this rich heritage of the Correia de Sequeira's family in Douro. It's name celebrates “Douro”, which means “gold river” in Portuguese.

Golddrink is thus the result of 50 years of dedication to the Douro and the production of Port wine. Headed by winemaker Rita Sequeira, leading an expert team, which benefits also from brothers Catarina and César Sequeira know-how in product development, marketing and sales. More than a team, we are a family were each one is a precious link in a history of generations. United by the pride in sharing the most genuine experience of Douro with customers, visitors and partners.

The main enthusiast of the Golddrink project it is in the Douro where we find her, in between her busy Marketing and Sales schedule for the estate products across borders, among barrels, hulls and rafts and in activities on horseback, dedicating time to her love for animals.

Maria Elisa dos Santos Galante

Maria Elisa dos Santos Galante

Mentoring and Inspiration

If it was possible to discover the origin of all the actions of which we are proud of, we would find it in our mother's heart. Maria Elisa was born in Lisbon in 1949. In 1971 she followed her husband César Sequeira while finishing his PhD at the University of London. After returning, she devoted entirely to the family and to the Quinta they had inherited the Douro.

Passionate about the arts, she finished the studies in Interior Design at the Museum School Ricardo Espirito Santo Silva, in 1985. Four children and the farm duties kept her away from design, but in the Douro she rebuilt Casa de Marrocos and took off with tourism. She died in 2013 still active and enthusiastic, firmly believing in the potential of Douro and asserting herself by her simplicity and femininity.
